How to choose the perfect wedding invitations

Posted last May 12, 2014, 1:07 pm in People report article

Sending out wedding invitations is more than simply letting guests know when and where the wedding will be. It is a first impression of the couple and what the wedding will be like. They set the tone and theme and will be kept by guests as a keepsake. This can cause brides some anxiety. Even though the wedding invitation is central to the day, choosing the perfect invitation is fun!

The theme of the invitation, and therefore the wedding, is the first thing to consider. Brides have trouble creating the perfect theme for their wedding. They may begin with a theme in mind, but that usually gets thrown out once they see different invitation samples they fall in love with.

Brides should keep an open mind about invitation design, especially if there is no preference on the theme or have not yet chosen a colour scheme. Viewing invitation product samples makes the difference between simply liking an invitation and actually ordering an invitation.

Instead of sticking with a design theme, choose a colour scheme. When brides choose a certain theme, it narrows down the choices before they can even experience the different kinds of invitation designs available. Specific colours will appropriately limit choices without brides missing out on the perfect design theme.

Price can be a consideration when ordering invitations, especially if there are many guests invited. Each invitation is a keepsake and almost considered barter for gifts from the guests. Therefore, brides should not go for the bottom dollar, low quality invitation. There should be some quality in the invitation while keeping it affordable.

Look for invitation creation companies that offer other services along with their high quality invitations. Make sure they include envelopes for free with the order. Any part of the invitation design should be altered for free. See if the company offers free shipping, even if it is conditional.

Every bride has a different opinion of beauty. However, it is better to keep invitations less frilly and flashy, even if the wedding is going to be that way. An invitation should be a hint to how the wedding is going to be, not an exact representation. Keeping the guests in suspense makes the day more special.

On the invitation, be sure to leave off bold-coloured ribbons and coloured rhinestone embellishments, or other decor that is ostentatious. The point is to be classy and tasteful and not have the invitation look like it is for a Sweet Sixteen birthday bash.

Obviously, it is important that the invitation is legible. Guests should be able to easily read the details about the wedding day. Avoid light ink on light backgrounds and dark ink on dark backgrounds. Yellow and pastels are tough colours to read. If those are the colours desired, make the background contrasts enough for letters to pop.

Brides can also work difficult colours into the design details rather than making it the main print of the invitation. Brides should also beware of hard to read fonts. Overly scripted typeface may look elegant and wedding-y, but it is hard for guests to decipher.

It is not poor taste to put a photo of the couple on the invitation, especially if there are large amounts of guests who do not know what the other half of the couple looks like. However, a photo of the couple can make a bigger impact elsewhere. Placing a picture on a save the date, engagement announcement, wedding program, table menu, or wedding favour is more effective.

It is a good idea to view a sample of the invitation before placing a large order. It is important to look at the invitation design and style in person to get the full effect. Brides can also feel the paper and experience the quality for themselves. Find a wedding invitation distributor that offers a free sample pack of invitations to save money. Many distributors charge for a sample.
